your secret weapon to an in-demand brand

A question I get asked so often is why don’t I design on platforms other than WordPress? The short answer: ‘cos it’s a waste of f*cking time. The long answer: read on…

Let’s take a look at why I believe WordPress.org stands tall as the most elite weapon in the world of website platforms.

WordPress.org: The Unrivaled Titan

  • WordPress offers unmatched flexibility and customisation options with thousands of themes and plugins. This means you can add virtually any functionality you can dream of to your website and often there are options to suit any and all budgets as well.

  • WordPress offers a robust and scalable architecture capable of handling websites of all sizes. This means that while you may start off as a small business, when you reach global fame, your WordPress website will be growing right alongside you.

  • The platform is inherently optimised for search engine visibility, enhancing organic traffic. There are also several options and plugins you can use to further improve your SEO.

  • There is continuous innovation within the WordPress platform and in the wider community of plugin and theme developers which means there are always new updates and functionalities on offer, ensuring cutting-edge performance and security.

  • WordPress does require some technical knowledge for initial setup and configuration. This is why it’s best to work with a website designer/developer who can make the platform work for you and bring the most value [*ahem* looking at no one in particular]

  • As it is a self-hosted solution, a WordPress website can entail additional responsibility in keeping it up to date and secure for your clients. This is why I offer regular maintenance to all agencie seventeen clients as well as teach you how to manage your own website so you can be completely self-sufficient. I also recommend Siteground to my clients as a hosting platform. It is incredibly easy to navigate and their customer support is one of the best I have ever experienced.

Wix: The User-Friendly Challenger
  • The Wix website builder uses an intuitive drag-and-drop interface for easy website creation regardless of your skillset.

  • It is an all-in-one platform with hosting, domain registration, and design tools included. This means you have less research to do to find the options that fit your business needs.

  • Save a lot of time with hundreds of pre-designed templates catering to various industries and niches. Simply search for a template that suits your style and needs and then customise it.

  • Wix has built-in SEO tools and marketing features to boost online visibility and generate organic traffic.

  • Wix definitely has limited flexibility and customisation compared to WordPress.org. You are generally stuck with the options they provide with little room for change.

  • The platform does lack scalability for larger and more complex websites so it is difficult to build a website for a business that wants to grow and evolve.

  • The monthly subscription fees can become costly over time, especially as you want to add more “advanced” functionality to your website.

Squarespace: The Sleek and Stylish Contender

  • Squarespace offers elegant and modern templates that cater to design-conscious users who lack the skillset and confidence to create a unique and aesthetic design from scratch.

  • Squarespace integrates e-commerce functionality seamlessly into it’s online stores, making the user experience easy for all of your customers.

  • The platform has a user-friendly interface with built-in analytics and marketing tools, making managing your website an easy task.

  • Their managed hosting solution alleviates the need for technical maintenance meaning you can run your website with ease.

  • Squarespace has imited third-party integrations and plugin support meaning you are very limited in the additional functionalities you can add to your site.

  • It has much less flexibility in design customisation compared to WordPress so you are quite restricted to the templates and design layouts that they offer.

  • The Squarespace pricing plans can be restrictive for growing businesses with larger needs, often resulting in a large monthly cost.

Shopify: The E-Commerce Powerhouse

  • Shopify is a specialised platform tailored specifically for e-commerce businesses.

  • Shopify offers an extensive range of built-in features for product management and sales, making it very easy to create a successful online store.

  • They offer robust security measures and PCI compliance for secure transactions.

  • Shopify is a scalable (albeit expensive) solution capable of supporting businesses of all sizes and can grow as your business grows too.

  • Shopify focuses primarily on e-commerce functionality which may limit flexibility for other types of websites eg. service-based businesses.

  • Their transaction fees on top of high subscription costs can eat into your profits.

  • There is a much steeper learning curve for beginners compared to more user-friendly platforms.

In the battle of the website building platforms, WordPress.org emerges as the undeniable champion in my eyes, standing head and shoulders above its competitors in terms of flexibility, scalability, and community support.

While other platforms may offer user-friendly interfaces or specialised features, none can match the versatility and customisation options of WordPress.org. With a huge variety of themes, plugins, and resources, WordPress.org empowers users to create, manage, and grow their online presence with confidence and ease.

So, when it comes to building a website for your business that truly stands out from the crowd, there’s no contest: WordPress.org is the choice for you.
